I think this photo turned out really well...I think I had a slim aperature, low iso & short f-stop with flash on. Really not sure at all though, just playing with the manual settings on my wifes camera, not even 100% certain what each setting is:p

edit: I promise there's water in the tank

I don't think it does, I'll have to check tonight. The flash just pops up right above the lens I don't think its adjustable at all.

good pic! is this a DSLR? try it without the flash, you'll get much better results. Although you'll need to open up the aperture and crank up the ISO. Another option is to add extra lights on top of the tank. Anything will work, fluorescents, halogens, LED, whatever, you just want more light. Any funky white balance issues from the color of the light can easily be corrected in post processing.

Gahhh I had a whole reply typed out and my internet hiccuped when I hit post & I lost it:irked:

Basically, I think its a DSLR...pretty sure. I don't really have much available for extra lighting, but I also haven't tried what I do have yet. Just a couple LED flash lights and a floor lamp that I can drag over. I haven't been able to get a clear picture without the flash that isn't grainy from the ISO, too dark from the high shutter speed or blurry from the f-stop/aperture (not 100% that these are the right terms:p) But I'm trying.

This is just the best I've been able to manage so far. I was REALLY surprised at how clear it came out & how well (IMHO) the light/dark balance is with the colors popping & everything. I was smugly satisfied with it (ask my wife:p)

edit: Closest I can get to a tripod is setting the camera on a chair/stool and using the timer on it to avoid camera shake....but I can't really see trying to catch any good shots this way, I dunno. I'm just having a good time figuring out what I can & trying to get some good shots with what I have :)

^ thanks but.....to me it just looks washed out & cloudier. Seems like you changed the focal point from the convict to the flash glare behind it.

Looks like he just increased exposure a bit

Why would you use a tripod for taking photos of fish?

You can take perfectly good shots using the pop up flash if you just angle the camera in relation to the glass so the glare is out of the frame.
