Does starving a fish until it will eat most anything usually work? Once it begins eating the desired food will it keep eating it or just hold out until it gets real hungry again and will eat anything? Getting some fish to eat a variety is tough. My male grammode will eat about as many mealworms and earthworms as you can give him, but rarely seems interested in prepared food. Will starving him work?

I believe it's a matter of acquired taste, fasting him for a few days, providing he has a solid appetite for his current diet, should hopefully result in him eating and learning to like pellets, just make sure it's a high quality product, New Life Spectrum, Omega-One and the higher end Hikari products would be good.

Should work out cheaper too, unless of course you breed your own worms.

As Japes said, try fasting for 3-4 days. My male grammy is a picky eater too, but with patience and persistence I've got him hooked on Hikari Gold. He'll eat nothing but now.

Thanks. I'll probably try NLS and Dainichi Color FX as they are small sinking pellets and he is only 3.5 inches. Today is the first day I haven't fed him. He hides a lot, which isn't suprising for grammodes. I want to hold out as long as I can before I have to go to dithers.

my female JD is picky she really only likes worms and krill but a few days with no krill or worms and she ate a few pellets most big cichlids won't go hungry
