I am having some difficulties in doing this setup...

I have..

  • USED 30g tank w/lighted canopy
  • USED Fluval 403(replaced o-rings)

I need hose, 5/8" not 100% sure. After purchasing some 5/8 vinyl from Home Depot I found it to have a very think wall..maybe too thick as the hex nut will never slip over the top of it. (I have more than enough hose..but I think it is the wrong type...

Things I am missing...

  1. 2 Double valve disconnects for maintenance of canister
  2. Spray bar/inatke manifolds and suction cups.. may need brackets to hang them into the tank?
  3. Substrate (thinking about Instant Aquarium Moon Sand), Wanting to use driftwood for a natural scape but plastic plants, not a fan of "state fair" looking aquascapes
  4. Heater..i think 150 watt
  5. Powerhead?
  6. Gravel cleaner.... i saw a basic for about $10 on foster&smith

My wish was to have clown loaches as the center piece... Saw a handful in a larger tank as a kid..:WHOA: not a good idea now, unless I KNOW I can sell them once they reach 4-5"...:(

That's the basics.. I have some odds and ends.. I have PRIME, activated carbon, carbon matrix, biozyme, Aquasafe, an Seachem ammonia monitor that hangs in the tank, 403 foam blocks, bonded filter material, thermometer strip on tank (want a CoralLife digital), dip test strips

I am a complete n00b here tho.. I have only researched and tried to pay attention to as much as i can..

Take the canister to your lfs. They usually sell the hose there and you can size it to fit. Besides they should have everything you need. But try to price it first on line and go with what saves you the most money.

This was my next step.. I have spoken to a LFS but have not taken the filter to the store, even thought that makes the most sense. I should be able to do that tomorrow if not this evening...
