Has anyone ever had this combo? The tank is a 180 grow out. Right now the tsn in 7" in a 55 and the 3 cichla are 2"-3" in a 29.

At this point I feel that the tsn will eat the cichlas. How do you suggest getting the cichla bigger faster and "slowing" down the growth of the tsn. Or do cichlas already have a fast growth rate? How big do you suggest the cichla should be before they are housed with the tsn?

Thanks guys

1. Your cichla will be expensive feeders

2. Prepare another grow-out tank say a 2' and do the pumping regime with feeders :headbang2

3. Dont not "slow" down the grow rate of any fish. If u starve the TSN and the cichlas are in the same tank, it will be a disaster when u wake up in the morning and not find any more cichlas left

4. For example, if your TSN is 6" your cichlas should be about 4-5" although sometimes this may vary and your TSN might swallow fishes of the same size considering that monsterous appetite even at such a young age.

Just some pointers

Well I wouldn't starve the tsn when it's in the same tank as the cichlas lol. Right now there in different tanks and I'll "starve" him then. I just want the cichla to catch up to the tsn

Or you could just not starve your TSN at all and just except the fact that different species have different growth rates and that your Pbass might never catch up to your TSN's size. I don't think anyone should need to be told, starving a fish to slow down it's growth certainly isn't healthy for it.

im not gonna Starve the tsn literally im just not gonna shove food down its throat like i am now. Ill just keep the food down so that he doesnt grow insanely fast

No matter how you phrase it, it is stilll you feeding a fish a less than exceptable amount for your benefit not his. It is selfish and it borders on animal cruelty. If you can't house/feed/care for certain fish DON'T BUY THEM!!! Id love to have a giraffe, but I can't house one properly so I don't own one.

oh ya thats totally the same thing

If the op is currently over feeding the tsn and decides he wants to start feeding it a respectful amout instead I hardly consider that animal cruelty lol but hey if it doesn't matter how op puts it and its still animal cruelty to you then I think your opinion is greatly unrecognized in this thread. But hey its all just a big laugh for me:popcorn:

Oh and to answer your question both species grow fast. And I wouldn't put them together intill the pbass are about 7-8 inches but that's just me also I grew a tsn out to 13" and when my shovel nose was about 4 inches my sisters fish bowl broke and when I came home there was a her 3.5 inch gold fish in my tank long story short the gold fish never grew any bigger but the tsn didn't eat him intill he was 9"

Alright thanks man
