I have a TSN catfish I was told that when they get large they will blow out the side of a tank, is this a true fact? if so is it really worth keeping these fish? thanks for any help jeff

TSN are a bit hyper and can definetly break a tank as they get bigger. You would need a tank at least 4 ft wide to keep a large one so it can turn around. I have a 20" in a 300g another few inches and he will be uncomfortable. Look into a big feed trough or pond setup if you really want one

Our TSN was about 39" when we found him a home at a public aquarium. They are awesome fish, but be prepared - they will eat anything they can fit in their mouths!

definatly worth keeping if you can house them

The largest TSN I've worked with was about 4'. We had acquired him from a private owner who had it break the side of a 2000 gallon tank.

I keep mine in an acrylic tank, less chance of breakage. He is in a 250 gallon but only 13 inches long. Bought him a year and change ago at 5 inches

They get large here is an example and grow quite fast my one is out growing his tank and going into a tropical pond. This fish is one of the original tank busters there has been a few accounts of them getting spooked and smashing through the end of the tank. It’s the width of the tank that is important as if they feel hemmed in they dart off. Most of the captive ones can get to 36ins but they get huge in the wild.
