I was asked to post this post picture and start my own thread regarding this issue of deformation occurring in today’s LFS. I purchased this tiger as a baby 2 years ago. The fish was young enough that the skin looked transparent. Even then I noticed the “hump” on this shovelnose’s head. In the tank their were other shovelnose, some with normal flat heads w/the same transparent skin(obviously from same origin). So here is tiger today. Wheather this is a genetic recessive, a naturally occuring abnormality, a result of in-breeding, or a new mutant species hellbent on world domination ( ok this last ones not happening) I can not say. What I can tell is how it is in my “community “ tank.

Thank you for doing this. In our posts in the stickie I didn't mean for you to create a thread highlighting the deformity. This deformity is well known and we have been seeing it for more than a decade. It has varying degree of severity. That on your fish just happens to be pretty severe, on the high end.

What I did wish was for you to have a thread on your fish, where you could share your observations, visuals, etc. and also come back to it with updates whenever you willed so.

That's the kind of threads that I like the most and I believe they are the most useful both for the fish owner, who can always look back and be reminded what happened and when, and anyone else reading, doing homework, learning, enjoying, etc.

Ideally, it'd be like an online diary dedicated to this fish.

As far as feeding goes size doesn’t matter. Small or big just kind sucks up & chews(gulps). Always has been a good eater. It will floating pellets, sinking p Honestly other than looks it behaves like a normal TSN.
