alot of people think that a TSN and a Gar are unsuitable tankmates due to the aggression of the catfish and the skittish temperament of the gar. However i believe that the size of the fish in relation to one another and the type of gar/catfish combo dictates the compatibility.

Check this vid out of my TSN and Gar feeding together:

Great vid. And very nice tank and stock. I agree. I have never had a problem with my gar or tsn as long as they've lived together. Also how fast are your gars growing? Trying to figure out if mine is a flux only bein 16" in 7 months or if that's average. Thanks

My 18" was 16" when i got him in July. My 11" was a little under 8" in July so they average about 1"/1.5 mths. I don't power feed them, and my temp stays around 77F. My 11" gar eats pellets and feeders, however my 18" eats only feeders. Therefore my 11" eats every other day and gets feeders on Friday. My 18" only eats on Friday; however, his belly gets huge so i figure its enough to sustain him for a week especially since the water temp is only 77F. are those real plants or artificial? my wife wants my tank to look "prettier", but i dont have to time, money, or skills to keep live plants looking good.

how did you get your gars to start eating pellets? my fl gar is wild caught so ive been feeding feeders, but i got a bad batch of feedersa while back and it wiped my entire tank out with ich except for the gar. Ive tried freeze dried krill and small shrimp and hikari pellets that i feed my red devil with. the gar will nose the food around but i havent seen him eat any of it. I havent fed him feeders in a couple weeks now and he's not looking real thin so im not sure if he's eating or not. Ive heard of starving em till they eat but I dont want to kill him. lol

They are artificial (Fancy Plants), got them from Big Al's Online.

Don't starve him I have a WC (by my wife) 18" Fl gar and he doesn't eat pellets. My LFS bought FL Gars loves them. I guess it depends on the fish. when i feed my fish pellets the 10" Fl gar gobbles them down Right in front of the 18" and he still doesn't get the idea/point. However every Friday i feed all my fish in my home feeders. so that is when he eats once a week on Friday. Just keep you temp up around 80F and and a little salt in your water and you will not have to worry about ich and many other parasites from the feeders, also net the feeders out and dump in you tank. Don't put that nasty LFS/BaitShop water in your tank, but you probably already know that.

yea i tried the starving thing but gave up. all my other fish are on pellets and the gar will just sit and watch them eat. he doesnt get the point either. Im in the process of setting up a small tank in the garage to house feeders before feeding.

I have a question about salt tho. Will adding the aquarium salt to the tank hurt any common MF specifically TSN? (i actually just bought a TSN 4" a week ago, who fell victim to a 6" bass this morning, my day started out not so good turning on the tank's lights and seeing the TSN stuck in the bass's mouth. I pulled it out but it was too late). Im planning on getting another TSN soon just a little bit larger one and was interested in adding the salt to prevent disease.

To the op. Nice tank and stock. The tsn look's great.
No salt won't bother them in the right amount's. All my tank's are salted and almost all have cat's.

^^^^ thanks man really appreciate it

Nice tank, beautiful TSN. Your's is so active, mine is 7" and hardly ever moves, was yours always so squiggly? Or did it get a certain size first?
