ok i just got a juvenile TSN (5-6 inches) about 2 days ago (friday night) and im already having some "issues" with him. his tankmates are as follows:

* 8" RTC
* 9" clown knife
* 7 or 8" Pbass
* 6" senegal bichir
* 4" common pleco

so heres the scoop. my peacock bass and clown knife must think he's food or something because they keep nipping at his tail. when i brought him home he had a nice full tail. when i put him in there they nipped at him a little bit, i figured they would get over it and realize he is a tankmate not a feeder. so i had the lights off all day and when i got home at about 8 o clock tonight i turn the lights on, and the top part of his tail fin lost its grey color and now it looks a dead brown. the bottom of his tail fin is the same color it supposed to be just the top where the most damage is done is miscolored and he also has a "little cut" on the back of his tail right before where the fin starts, nothing huge just where u can see a little bit of pink.
Ive also tried to feed him little cuts of beefheart and hot dog and he refuses to accept it and i have yet to see him eat (more the likely due to stress im sure) but i feel like if he doesnt eat he might not recover from his minor (or major?) injury.

If i can avoid getting rid of the 2 bullies i would like to because i tend to grow a little attached to my fish (i kno weird huh?). but then again i dont want to get rid of my catfish either. Id rather "have my cake and eat it too" if possible.
does anybody have any "old school tricks" or can tell me how to work sum magic to make these guys get along? any help would be appreciated. thank you.

The only way I see helping in this situation is to split the TSN into another tank, where he can heal up and get bigger. Hopefully when he recovers you can reintroduce him into the bigger tank.

Find out from the place you got at it what they were feeding him.. because some fish believe it or not eat the food they are accustomed to.. This is the case with my alligator gar he only eat feeders nothing else.... he will starve himself if i dont get him those dam feeders.. it can be that or maybe he is still in shock... and for the tail nipping it is ok for a little bit of tail to be snipped off because it should grow back but monitor it and make sure its not more than that

A 20 gallon IMO should be good enough for a 6" TSN to grow out in for a while.

Yes grow him out a while in another tank with some good filtration and lots of feedings.

Wont take long!

Mine lives for prawn and blue sardine.

ok well then my next question is, its only the footprint that matters right since theyre "bottom dwellers"?, my querentine has a leak halfway down so if i only fill it half way he'll still be kool?

Should be how high is the quarantine tank?

As long as the tsn has a good 2 body heights of water he should be fine IMO.

That should be no problem for the TSN, BUT maybe for your filtration system assuming they are HOB. Other than that, this sounds like a plan! :)

Good luck with the monster in training catfish!

I really wanted to pick up a RTC or a TSN today but I chose none as those f***ers will just eat my stock anyways. Hopefully I get the experience and enjoyment of raising one of these monsters in the future.
