~ I have this 6 inch TSN with a huge belly and don't know what it is. First he has absolutely not had anything to eat in almost 2 weeks, all my fish are still in the tank. Second I did net him and his belly is soft. My LSF said she thought it was drop belly and to treat it with neomycin. Any help please. today I think his belly is bigger then in the picture.

OK now he is starting to swim sideways and his belly has gotten bigger. I am thinking that I should just end his pain and suffering. If anybody has any more good idea's please help.

How should I treat the bloat?

i would have thought you would have someone post the answer by now ,, if i knew or even had an idea i would say so ,, i do hope someone can help soon ,, anything on google maybe ?

got this from google

it sounds like your fish has bloat. This is typically caused by some sort of infection in the stomach or intestine. There are medicines and the most effective would be ones that he either eats or that you soak his food in (provided he will still eat). That way, the medicine gets right to the problem. Medicines that you just dump in the water are typically not very effective.

Dropsy
Symptoms: Bloating of the body, protruding scales.

Dropsy is caused from a bacterial infection of the kidneys, causing fluid accumulation or renal failure. The fluids in the body build up and cause the fish to bloat up and the scales to protrude. It appears to only cause trouble in weakened fish and possibly from unkempt aquarium conditions.
An effective treatment is to add an antibiotic to the food. With flake food, use about 1% of antibiotic and carefully mix it in. If you keep the fish hungry they should eagerly eat the mixture before the antibiotic dissipates. Antibiotics usually come in 250 mg capsules. If added to 25 grams of flake food, one capsule should be enough to treat dozens of fish. A good antibiotic is chloromycetin (chloramphenicol). Or use tetracycline. If you feed your fish frozen foods or chopped foods, try to use the same ratio with mixing. As a last resort add at most 10 mg per liter of water. Also, if unkempt conditions are the suspected cause, correct it.

~Thanks for your reply. I did try treating him for bloat and he died this afternoon. you win some and you loose some. I really did like this little guy.
