I just got an 8" tsn 3 days ago and he is not eating (unless he is eating scraps off the bottom at night). He sits for most of the day, although on occasion I see him swimming. Also he has the bone detached from left fin, does that heal?

If the bone is detached more than likely it will break off and the fish will heal. For a catfish that size, a move is extremely stressful, and you arent going to see him eat right away. Give him a few days with the lights off to adjust and then go from there. I would start with frozen bloodworms and krill to get him eating and then after a while you can start moving him onto pelloted foods.

Thanks for the info. I will try turning out the lights.

get some raw market shrimp or some fillets, and break them up into pieces, reach your arm down in slowly or use tongs and drop the piece right in front of him gently with the lights off. if he doesnt eat it, try it again tomorrow, if he doesnt eat it try again the next day. be persistent and if doesnt eat dont freak out, it could be over a week before he eats. when i moved my rtc to the pond from my 90 he didnt eat for over 2 weeks, and he is only 12" and was fine. so long as he's not active he wont burn alot of energy and wont need fuel, so he will do fine fasting. i was wondering the same thing about the 24" giraffe catfish that i just got the other day, his fin is peeled away from the bone. hope it grows back.

also leaving the lights off for a few days will help with relieving stress like he said above.

turn off the lights and when he starts to swim around, drop in some catfish wafers or something else and he will most likely go for them :D

Today he finally ate. Or at least this was the first time I saw him eat. I threw in some feeders for my other fish and low and behold the TSN ate one. It was only a matter of time I suppose.
