So Today i jumped out of bed and ran out to the pond to say good morning to my monsters. I have a TSN, and a Oscar i got for free a few days ago. I had my TSN since it was around 3 inches Its about 8 months and 16 in needless to say some time that night He Gulped up my 9 1/2 in Florida gar I was shocked:eek: at first but stuff happens. Anyone else lose a monster to another monster?

Also My tsn Will swim up let me pet his sides he seems to enjoy it pushing him self against my hand like a house cat. He has strange playful behavior where i will push water towards him and he will chase my hand and bite me if only his love bites didnt draw blood. I thought he might just be hungry but he does it even when his guts full of shrimp.

Anyone else experience playful behaviours or petting with large cats?
I just cant stay mad at him i miss the gar dearly but i cant wait to hear you guys stories :P so lets get them rolling...

9in rtc tsn at 8in peacock bass

Be careful about hands and big cats. They're cute at that size, but as these guys grow, those heads and mouths get HUGE!!!! He's not going to understand that his behavior (whether aggressive, playful or predatory) won't be okay in the future. I quit hand feeding as I realized their mouth could soon easily engulf my hand. As they got older, they got more bold, and I couldn't put my hand in the tank safely. Just a heads up...

Edit: My rtcxtsn will grab and take off with all sorts of stuff like nets, 3' long tongs, etc. He's super friendly and cool, and since I've stopped hand feeding, patting his side is a much more relaxing experience for both of us.

Yes i also rub his side he seems enjoy it... Thanks for the heads up He already draws blood when he bites.... Do they have teeth I cannot tell?
Also when i bought him he was suppose to be an TSN but he is a TSNxRTC with the TSN being the dominant You can see the RTC in the caudal and dorsal fins thou.. It was at pet supermarket He was 20 dollars Mislabels and lack of the workers knoweledge always worked in my favor...

Sorry to hear about the Gar.
Don't know if you all care to hear this but I just wanted to mention that petting your fish can lead to infections and gives open invitations to parasites.

omg your tsn ate your florida gar, how sad. tsn is way crazier than rtc

I couldnt Beleive it either When he was in the grow out tank they never showed any agression...

They are more energetic than RTC and more slender and quick I think they also have a attitude. RTCs are like Puppys They are alot more bulky too They are predators you can keep them full but just like a car sometimes they let you down lol... Keep them Coming :popcorn:

Thanks it hard losing such a long living and personable fish i cant replace him because the growout tank has 6 Jags and 2 oscars and 3 Pangasius sutchi

I know That if you touch a fish that doesnt get enough nutrition then it can not replenish its slime coat allowing parasites and if it gets a cut it can easly become an infection.

But if you occasionally "pet" a fish that is healthy then it stimulates the cells that produce slime making an even thicker coat which is benefical to the fish by preventing parasite and protecting against infection....

So if the fish is not eating and receiving all the nutreints i wouldnt reccomend petting them but it is perfectly healthy for a fish I have nothing for my fish to scrape on to help shed slime so i let them swim against my hand....

Im not arguing but this is what I learned while in zoology class
