I got a TSN thats about a foot long a couple weeks ago. I noticed when I got it home that one of its top whiskers was broken. I immediately went to this forum and looked up if it would heal. I thought that it was broken when the store owner netted it. Now I'm not so sure. it doesn't seem to be growing back in. The broken whisker is sold for about the first inch, or so, and then it look like a decaying worm hanging out .

My first question is what can I do for it now? Do I need to manually trim the whisker and hope it grows back? Am I over reacting and it take a long time to grow back? Thanks for any help in advance. Here are a couple pics of the damage.

Don't stress to much ... where the break is on that whisker it will grow back... the only thing you need to do it make sure you change your water as often as you can to ensure that it's perfect... Give it some time and you'll see that the "worm" piece will fall off, then it will "ball up" and you'll see it almost look like a Q-Tip at the end then it will start to grow back.

my tsn had the same wisker broken and it took about 2 months to grow back but i still worried it's fine now tho

bass is correct! you get the gold star my friend! lol, but anyways don't sweat it too much unless you have bad water quality it should grow back. It will stay eroded, and possibly get worse if there is presence of ammonia though. Keep up the water changes everyday, or every other day and it should grow back fairly quickly. I have a crazy MRTC that tears it's whiskers in half about once every other month on something and it only takes a few weeks to heal up. Good luck!

Keep an eye on him. If the other wiskers start to curl then this may be signs of a bacteria infection or poor water quality. Like mentioned above, if you havent changed the water in a while then do a 25-50% water change and add some salt. I have good results with Melafix, helps heal wounds really fast and is safe.

Make sure you have good water parameters, and after a while it will grow back.

Thanks for the info. I'm glad to here it should heal up. I do weekly 30 to 50 % water changes now. I'll do a couple extra for awhile to make sure it heals up nice. Thanks again
