i have a 4" tsn and would like to buy a 3-5" electric catfish to go in my 90g grow out tank will these two make it together or should i nix the electric cat, also will have 2-3 peaCock bass and two compresser cichlids {that will be eventual food for the pb's} so talk to me?

Bad idea, the Electric cat with toast the tiger shovelnose. I've kept both. Safely the only inhabitants that are fine with e cats are synodontis specie catfish. As far as the peacock bass, be sure they are at least the same size as the tiger shovelnose otherwise they could be food for it. ~Trent

my six inch one makes me jump when he gets a shot off on me. i keep him singly for just that reason.

Carl: Synodontis because through alot of researching online and through heresay of other members that were keeping e cats at the time I purchased mine it had been discussed that the Syno specie were immune to the discharge of the electric catfish. So...I loved my e cat but wanted something else in the tank with him so I started with 3 synodontis multipunctatus and after realizing they were still alive after a week or so figured it was probably ok, to further substantiate my theory that they were in fact immune to the shock, I added a longear sunfish to the tank that I caught at a local pond, I could tell when I put it in the tank that the E cat after the sunfish got in the catfish usual space got shocked at least once and took of quickly to the other side of the tank. The following morning I discovered the sunfish dead in the place the electric catfish spent most of its time near the rock cave area I had in the corner. I decided that the sunfish must have been electocuted during the night when he tried to hide out in the E cats favorite spot, meaning a pretty stout discharge to kill the sunfish which was about half the e cats size. Since the synodontis were unharmed I figured what I read as a possibility online and from rumors of others was true. I then purchased 2 synodontis flavitaeniatus and added them with no problems of the e cat frying them either. They just turned out to be more aggressive and pestered him and the other syno's more in general. Sorry for the long response ~Trent

i had one that was 10inches (now i got a 5inch)It can kill up to over 3 1/2 8dozen large gold fish in 3.5seconds. Never put your had in their tanks unless you really nessary need too! use protection like rubber gloves. Electric cats have the ablity to kill any 3-4times it's own size!
