has anyone ever put a hybrid in a outside pond here in san diego or somewhere with similar weather? im looking to move my hybrid and one of the other members has a beautiful 1800 gal outside pond ready....but not heated. i dont want to sentence this guy a certain death if he wont survive without the heating. HELP!

will die in the winter most likely in the summer to sorry to say

Yeah. He probably won't survive the 59 deg water in the winter. I do have 2000W inline titanium heater for my outdoor pond but it will cost $$$$$ to run it.

It would last outside in the summer months. Or if yah lived on the coast of socal most of the year.

from the looks of the pics you sent me kendragon, your pond get a lot of sun and looks like a good setup. what part of town you in?

Ground temperatures are probably around 60 degrees, so you are combating that, cool air, cool water changes, and rain. I cannot imagine a pond will run above the 60's in the winter time if not cooler. Given he is a tropical fish, you are going to be sentencing him to death. If he doesn't die directly from the water temperature, his immune system will be compromised dramatically and would die from some infection.

Hopefully, you can find him another option.
