i just bought one of these beauties and i wanted to know everybodies take on them. I think that they are a very pretty fish. I heard that they grow a lot slower that the RTC which is good

OPINIONS?

Pretty much the exact opposite of what you said. They grow FAST and can attain sizes larger than either the RTC or TSN due to something called hybrid vigor.

I was looking into one for my 240 gallon, but realized it would outgrow that tank in less than 2 years and need a large pond.

friend has one in a pond that is a little less than 3 years old and its almost 4 feet long. it grew faster than any fish he had ever owned and he's been into large FW fish for probably 10+ years.

The replies will come thick and fast quite a few of us have them on here . my one is growing like a mad thing and eating like one to, they grow just as fast if not faster and I hope you have made plans for him. They will eat any thing thay fits in there mouth. Here are a few pics an early one and a later one he has become very nocturnal and should be going into his pond with my TSN in the next few weeks as all I have to do is pull my finger out and fit the filter and fill it.

i want my RTC X TSN to look like yours, mine i think is changing pattern now. do you know why?

this fish gets huge fast. Mine is 28 1/2 inches long and growing at 1+ inches a month still. You can expect that with proper feeding it will probably outgrow most rtcs. Zoo shovelnose catfish patterns change as they grow. they have a less dramatic pattern when younger. you will start to see some white stripes going up through the darker top and his spots will get smaller with age. I can see the difference in the pattern on mine from when i got him just 8 months ago. Seems to me that this catfish does not slow it growth as much as rtcs or tsn when at a larger size. Good luck with yours. I think this catfish combines the beauty of both rtc and tsn.

:naughty: :woot:  :headbang2 :D
