What size is he? Looks too small, too early for an ID. After 2' is better. As is, I'd think either a fasciatum or tigrinum.

Not saying your wrong but that fish does not look 18" what size tank is he in

I thought smaller too. 18" is closer but their coloration and pattern will keep heavily evolving. A clear pic of the whole fish from semi-above could help to see if it has the "Y" shaped stripes , usually more characteristic of fasciatum.

They are so-o-o variable in appearance. In the states, we get mostly fasciatum, less often tigrinum, much, much less often reticulatum, and AFAIK almost never any others (perhaps barring special and specific requests).

Very cautiously I'm tilting towards fasciatum. I wish better experts chimed in like Necrocanis, Wednesday13, Wayne The Pain, Oddball, and Co.

Pleasant-looking tank. For many years, 120 gal tall 5'x1.5' has been my biggest tank.

Thank you,I wanted to not overdo it with decorations want as much free swimming space as possible, no live plants due to the texas cichlid.going to get rid of the 2 big hobs, and the fluval 406 sometime down the road, maybe get a fx5, have less stuff hanging in the tank
