Went to a buddy's place last night, got the opportunity to shoot the Tomocichla Tuba, they are in full on breeding color and defending their second batch of fry in the last month or so! Who knew they could be so prolific. Anyhow, here are a couple of the ones that I liked. . . .

oh my....they are STUNNING!! I wonder why they are so hard to find....how's the temperament? I've been drooling over some asfraci but these look just as good.

How much does USFW charge anyway?

They really are stunning! Such an interesting body shape. I think that they are not the easiest to spawn and raise fry, this trio just happens to be really good! Shoot me a pm if you are interested and we can discuss the logistics of a shipment :)

Nice shots Ray!

Thanks very much Rach!

Geeeez Ray, you must be slipping!!! I can barely see their masks in the last shot!! Most people will think they are T. sieboldii instead!!! Shame, shame on you!!! :screwy:

Awesome pics as usual, interesting to see the red on them. Was that only during breeding? Most T. tuba pics I've seen lack it, but this is the first time seeing them in breeding coloration. If you head back, would love to see a shot of their famous breeding mask over the eyes/face.

Don't mind the first paragraph, I'm stuck in that 2nd world country north of the border in the cold and going stir crazy!!! :grinno: Though hopefully I'll hit the LFS up here that orders from Spencer, should calm me down a notch or too!!!

haha No mistaking them for each other! I think that I do have one with the mask, I'll check to see if it's presentable :D As for the red, It was there, but, not nearly as bright.

Have you moved to the promised land finally? Over on the west coast, you really have no idea of cold! We are at -21 celcius at the moment, it's warm out compared to the last couple days.

Oh ya. . . thanks. . . I think

Really? The books all say the only way to tell them apart is dorsal hard ray counts and the mask when they are breeding!!! That is, if you can find a book with them actually in it for once!!! Yeah, I'd love to see the breeding mask shot if you have it!!

Nope, haven't made the move yet. Up for the holidays and lamenting the fact I didn't bring my white cheddar cheese-it's with me!!! I am poking around to see if I can find a company rep drunk enough on rummed up egg nog to sponser an American for a temp work visa while I'm here though. Too bad Spencer doesn't have a Victoria distribution center out here eh?

We were at -5C the other day, but I'm from Southern California originally, I find anything colder than 15.5C desperately cold!!!
