tube or play sand

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
play sand is usually carribean beach sand and is basically ground coral. It's good for saltwater/reef tanks and african cichlids. It will raise the PH.

I have heard of people using both types in there fresh water setups but I have no personal experience with either of them. Let us know how it turns out because I was going to use tube sand in my piranha tank.

I use play sand in my SA/CA Cichlid tank . Nothing have gone wrong for me using that , PH levels are around the norrmal point .

I have used play sand in my 55 gallon with no ill effects. I have found tube sand has more rocks. Both are VERY dirty and need to be cleaned extremely well.

I used playsand in my 55 Mbuna tank. It looked great. Only problem I had is it is very light, and easily gets kicked up in the water, especially with digging fish. It will easily ruin powerfilters.

agreed, very very dirty. Use the search function for multiple threads on ways to rinse and prepare sand for tank use.
