I'm thinking male too small to be an ovipositor but then this fish is 2-3" so Im not sure not the best pic anyone care to take a shot at it.View attachment 868810

If its even questionable I'm going to keep it as I like the color/pattern and the personality but if its looking 100% female I'll probably trade it in
Quite a few views no one cares to venture a guess? Should have made it a poll. Oh well maybe he/she is still to small still.
The only real way to sex a flowerhorn is by venting it.... take it out and look at its underside... if the vent flap looks like a V its a male.. if it looks like a U its a female
Anyone have any tips on venting? I've heard of it but never tried it, makes me nervous like I'd be really stressing the fish. Is it safe? It would save me some money I'm up to 3 juveniles trying to increase my odds of getting 1 male and 1 female.
Imo it's not too young to sex, and removing the fish from the water and looking at its vent is not the only way to sex it. The pic is not very clear but my guess is possible female, if you had a clearer pic I could be a little more definitive.
If it looks like an arrowhead pointing backwards towards the fish's tail its male, a female's ovipositor looks rather like the trigger of a gun and points straight down. I would venture to say you haven't gotten much response because of pic clarity. A really good closeup of the vent area is required for a positive id.
