This mbuna has had this growth for about a month, progressively getting larger. Any ideas as to what it is or treatment if possible? The fish is still eating normally, and tends to hide out in the same area of the tank. But that could be normal mbuna behavior anyways. Sorry about picture quality.

Thanks

look up "lymphocystis" and see if that tracks with what your fish has . . .

Thanks for posting that. Visually it looks sort of similar. From what i read lymphocystis is viral and is introduced...i haven't added any new fish to any of my tanks in almost two years. Hmm

I just did a quick google. I first wanted to know if it can be transmitted to Humans, sites stated NO.

Personally, I would knock the fish out (1 gallon aquarium water + few drops of clove oil). Get a knief and cut the growth off, Then apply a thin paste of Potassium Permanganate (A strong oxidizer, Should kill any surrounding infected cells) [can get PP at pool supply stores].

Good luck!

It could be Aeromonas bacteria or Pseudomonas bacteria both will respond to Tetracycline. These bateria will produce pimples that erupt into open red sores, I would quarteen ASAP and start treatment. I would also treat the whole tank seperatly. If it does not respond to treatment putting it down should be considered.
