Hi , im new the the forum and i may be in the wrong place as i only have goldfish and not monster or exotic species but i have seen the most experience ever on here reading threads.
i hope someone can help, i have two issues really concerning me and upsetting.
precious my 14 year fancy goldfish has had a very slow growing bloat. its taken nearly 3 years for him to steadily swell now more to one side, so much his anus is actually to one side. apart from it looking very uncomfortable he seems fine always swimming and feeding. red thread veins are beginning to appear like he's going to burst soon, im devastated, ive got some koi calm to sedate and hopefully euthanise him with and overdose should this happen.

ive tried always to feed green veg matter, they will only take shelled peas and love ripping broccoli to bits. recently i have tried epson salts as dip treatments and now a full tank treatment but ive only dosed at just less than a gram per litre(not a great deal although it looked it)

another fish has a similiar slow bloat problem that has taken years to grow , and my sarasa goldfish has what i was told a slow growing fatty cist on its mouth, its almost blocking his mouth completely now i have seen people cut things like this off but dont know whats for the best! im worried he cant pull anything through his mouth.

im in a total panic with them i feel like a total novice again theyre flicking off the sides of the tank now like something is bothering them, the water has been changed a lot with getting rid of the salt between treatments and a recent house move . i tested ammonia and nitrate with a dipstick thingy and it all fell in the safe range.

sorry to bombard people with my multiple problems im at a total loss at what to do feeling very down about it :(

If you get 5 posts you'll be able to post photos which would be helpful in trying to ID this. The dip sticks are not very accurate, you should take a sample of your water to the LFS and let them test for you so you can post the results. In the mean time you can add 1 tablespoon of salt per 5 gallons of water to hopfuly help with the flicking. The trouble with trying to ID and internal issue is just that it's internal. I could be a fatty deposit or and internal infection, viral, bacterial. Even a picture may not help but you never there may be somthing there. The fish is 14 years old so it might be somthing you can't do anything about. A photo of the fish with the growth on the mouth would be helpful also. Sorry I couldn't be of more help to you.

I would add some epsom salt to the tank. Should help with the bloat. As far as the flicking is concerned, could be parasites or some chemical irritant in the water. Does the flicking occur always or just after a water change?

Hello thanks guys, the flicking has just occurred at this new address the water is very hard. It tastes awful I mean from the tap not the tank. I could post very clear pictures or videos if I was allowed to. The bloated one has steadily gotten like that over years he looks miserable until food goes in then he goes bonkers still loving his feeds.
I feel so bad for the pair of them. The bloated one is silver and as the light shines through him I can clearly see what I think is his digestive tract full all of the time. I think if you could see the size of him you'd be surprised
Thanks again
