Hi, I have just setup another 135 gallon tank and currently running what it came with, a Fluval 404 and 204 with an Emp400. I also bought a used TurboTwist 18W for about 50 bucks and it came with the body and the bulb. There is no hosing or anything else. I am wondering how I can set this up to the Fluval 204 since I am pretty new to UV Sterilizers. I looked up the manual instructions online but because i dont have any of the locking nuts (acually it might have the locking nut if the black ring is it i'm not sure) or anything else, I'm not sure how to connect it. Need some help! Thanks!

Oh also the reason I don't want to connect it to the Fluval 404 besides the flow rate is because the canister is pretty loud as of now. I'm thinking the impellers aren't working...but then again the water is still being filtered. I'm not sure whats going on or if the Fluval 404 is just that loud. Anyone have a fluval 404? Is it quiet or loud? Sometimes a clicking noise starts and i'll have to pump it again.

The picture below is the whole thing nothing else. Please help thanks!

bumppss can anyone help me out? How will i be able to tube this thing up to my fluval 204. or would a power head be a lot easier?

if you hook it up to the 204 you would need to get some fitings to go from the inour diamitor of the hose to what ever the diamitor of the uv is and you would hook it up in line to the return hose same thing if u used a power head witch would be better to use

Can't u use the 405 and on the return, pipe 2 T valves, so a little water splits off into the UV inlet and then the return from it goes back into the return line, like a loop pretty much?..:screwy:

Wouldnt that bypass the UV?

Can not tell for sure from the picture but if the black rings screw off and the gray part is a bit of a tapered fitting it is probably a type of tapered compression fitting. If so get some appropriate hose that will just seat all the way on the tapered fitting. It should be a tight fit and take some real effort to get it on. Before you put the hose on put the black ring on the hose then tighten the black ring down after the hose is seated on the taper fitting and check for leaks.

If it is not a taper compression fitting then it probably just had the hose hooked on with a hose clamp. If that was the case I would buy new barbed fittings for use with hose clamps or new tapered compression fittings. In my experience the barbed fittings are better if you are going to need to take the hoses off very often and the compression type are better if you will only rarely need to unhook the hoses.

As for pumping water through it I would use a pump that has close to the optimal flow rate for the particular sterilizer. Optimal water contact time with the light is key for efficient use. I would also put the light on a timer that gives it correct daily exposure time. Saves a lot of electricity and increases bulb life by not running longer than needed to get the job done.
