I have some of my tanks routed through my RO filter with ball valves for quick top-offs (I know, I'm too lazy to to make auto-change/top-off systems). Works nicely most of the time, open the valve to top-off and turn it off when full.

My GSP had some pretty bad evaporation (no top right now) so I left it on for an hour or 2 (it was running slowly because I was filling up another tank too). I feel asleep and forgot to turn it off. I woke up with the tank dripping into the kitchen (it's on a bar between the kitchen and LR) and into the living room and outside my front door!.

Luckily it was just RO so it was a drip at best. Needless to say I still had some water damage to my bar and entryway!

Don't be stupid, remember what you are doing!

Or put in a floor drain!

also, Don't forget you're filling your tank with a hose... urg.. that was fun.

When my fish room gets built (the little misses is going to go nuts about that!) this will be a must, but if I put on in the entryway everyone would think I'm nuts!

i did that filling me 220 up after a waterchange fell asleep when tank had about 5 min left till full roughly 3 hours later i woke up.... many shop vac loads of water

Can't say I've done it myself, but I've read about someone getting home one night after going out with mates and there was water flowing out from under his garage door. Yep, he forgot he was doing a water-change on his breeding system when he left.

I know someday I to will overfill one of my tanks I just hope I have a fish room with a tile floor by then not carpet
