ok i need some help...i want to turn my 110gal fw into sw. how do i do that?!!! should i just drain it and let it dry out? all my fish got wiped out from polish on my wooden floors, silly mistake on my part. but i want to turn one of my tanks into sw. so basically what do i need to do..drain it etc completely dried out and then follow that sticky on the 90gal thread by reefscape?

Try www.ReefCentral.com Or www.bareefers.org

The best thing you can get is a quality skimmer look at ASM G3's. Not crucial but they will make your like easier. If you just wanted to make it salt add the salt, get some seeding live rock and use your existing filtration. But if you don't have a skimmer you'll need to do ffrequent water changes, not just Freshwater top offs.

Also get a large bin, and keep 50 gallons of Saltwater on hand mixed at all times. It's really not a big deal.

Three things to remember.
1. Check your tanks salt levels weekly
2. Add freshwater top off RO if possible
3.Do frequent water changes like Fresh, not as much but weekly, maybe 10% if hte fish load is normal.

Hope this helps a bit PM me if you have more specific.. I did hte exact same thing you are trying a year ago, learned alot. Now I run 100 (Fish only) & 40 gallon Salt (Reef); 220 & 40 Gallon Fresh. And I'm soon will be bringing a 180 gallon reef tank online

Better mix your salt at home.. I'd hate to have to drive around London with 50-100 gallons of saltwater in my car ;) tiny streets having to give way with sloshing water doesn't sound fun. Great town go there a bunch.

Drain, clean with white vinegar / water solution...dry...refill....bish bash bosh....job done :)

at some time youd want to add salt to the water in the tank

but seriously its simple. You clean with vinegar because its not going to harm any future fish or inverts. Using chemicals like soap, detergents and other cleaning chemicals is a no no, as you would have a tank that would kill fish.

Remove everthing from the tank. let dry for a day, clean with the white vinegar and water mix, usually 60% vinegar 40% water works for me, let that dry, and to be on the safe side, scrub it again.

the polish, did that get in the water, or was it the fumes??

+1 ^^^

Also remember patience is the key, learnt that the hard way four years back...

nothings worse then flipping bills only to have your fish do flips on ya lol. never get discouraged as well, keep going and learn from your mistakes.

Hi Neervana, Its nearly a year since i was on mfk (For full expanation go to "intoducing" yourself forum). I've just read that you were intersted in baby motoros....but that was nearly a year ago! They still keep producing lovely babies though. But having just read your message it looks like freshwater is going to be a thing of the past! So i'll just wait till nightfall and pop the little rays under peoples
windscreen wipers to be discovered by suprised motorists in the morning!

hey guys thanks for all the advice, i'm going to be draining my tank soon then i need to take that silly juwel filter box out of my tank. will keep all of you updated! and mola what are you going on about lol. yes, was interested in rays but that was AGES ago lol. how did you find my posts lol weird!

Sorry, if you look in member name "shround" it will make more sense. Just had a lot
going on over the last few months and was looking at all the messages i had never
replied to when shround was doing all the flash I.T stuff and didn't want to appear rude! Trying to get used to this tech stuff...please be patient! Erm a message came up saying you wanted to be a friend, i pressed a few buttons and accepted...i think!
Best of luck going marine and if you still like rays, theres always the marine blue spot
ray (has a reputation as a tricky feeder but mine was ok)
