So I just got a GREAT deal on a 150 gallon tank with overflows and sump system that were set up for a saltwater tank. Ive decided since I have tons of time and a little extra cash that Im going to build this tank out into something beautiful. I will be adding pictures as I go.

Included in the DIY conversion are:

New Canopy Build
New Stand Build

I have never actually ran a sump system with a freshwater tank before, so any pointers you could all give me would be greatly appreciated.

I will be posting pictures of the progress and before and after pictures.

Thanks very much in advance for any tips or pointers you give me. This is my first DIY anything for my aquarium fanaticism.

I wasnt hinting that I didnt know how, I just didnt know if it was going to be as stable or even more stable. I was kind of just hoping that someone had done it before and had a few tips or tricks they may have used for the other things

I turned a 125g tank with overflows, which had been a reef tank, into a fw tank, and its working great. Just give it a real good cleaning to get all the salt and algae out. Then maybe make sure there is clean biomedia in the sump, and you're ready to go. It should work fine.

Also, I focus mostly on biomedia. I just use a plain filter bag as mechanical filtration (pre-biomedia), and I don't bother using chemical filtration unless something is wrong in the tank (you can always leave a small chamber open to drop a couple bags of activated carbon in a hurry).

Just make sure you have more biomedia than you think you'll need, and a good pump (or two-redundancy is a good thing with sumps).

Ok, Ill be adding pictures in a few minutes, but Ive already hit a couple of snags...

The first snag is that I dont know as much as I thought I did about wet/dry systems... I would really like to use the tank as it sits, with everything hidden, rather than having perfectly good overflows unused and a low water level...

I hope that I dont hit many more snags. I would like to enjoy this tank very soon. Any advice you all could give would be splendid.
