Turning an old stand into a canopy?

So I got a stand with my 55g for free and didn't trust it. So I ended up buying another stand. They're just about the same color and the front of the original doesn't look bad.

Has anybody ever thought about cutting a stand down and using it as a canopy? I think it COULD work...but I dunno...I'm not at home to take measurements, it might be to small:\



edit: This is a dumb idea, the stand is going to be to small to try and fit over the top.

I have never heard of it. but I am sure it has been done. I know a guy that made a custom 55 stand out of a queen sized bed headboard he had made. It was very nice, but he a whole wood shop.
