Turning hard water soft...

water softens in time... Things like wood in the tank also help.

You'd be better off finding and getting fish that prefer hard water.
African rift cichlids and Central Americans prefer hard water.

Ya I was jw if there qas somethin like a ph neutral only for water hatdness but thats what I was thinkin bout anyways was cichlids I jus didnt know.... Thanks

Commercial water softeners just exchange the calcium ion for a sodium ion, this not the kind of softness, soft water fish require. The commercial units use salt, which is not how natural soft water becomes soft.
