i just had a thought, random i suppose but anyway, i was wondering how many people actually turn off all electrical equipment before doing a water change or putting there hands in tank. I always see that warning in heater manuals or even filter manuals to turn off Everything so you dont get shocked or killed. personally, ive never done that, i keep my filters running as long as i can during a water change, and even my heaters most of the time i dont turn them off ( i do keep them in the water). Just wondering, i see it all over, but have a hard time thinking most people actually do this

I do, I just turn off my power center and that turns everything off. I turn it all back on while I'm filling back up though.

I always turn heaters off. Mainly cause I'm worried if I drain too far I'll crack the heaters if they're on and not submerged. Everything else I don't worry about. Everything is gvci protected.

I've lost a good number of heaters to not turning them off. One of the reasons I went to a drip system. ha ha

each tank is on its own power strip... each tank gets shut down for a waterchange... im not at all worried about getting zapped...

power strip makes it real easy, start draining, flip little red switch, tank almost full, turn it back on

I turn everything off... my theory is always better to be safe than sorry....

I agree very easy and effective.

I worry about this too, this is why I originally started turning them off.

Couldn't agree more I almost died a couple times in life not following those rules. Most of the time we never know how costly our carelessness/laziness can be.

I usually just make sure I unplug the heater as I've cracked quite a few of them, one pretty recently too
