i want to have a tank in my room. when i walk into my room at night i turn on the lights. by turning on these desklamps and bedroom lights, would it stress out my fish a lot? how do your fish cope with this??
What fish do you have?
Just flicking on the lights after they have been off for a couple hours can startle the fish for sure. If you have large fish they may jump or hit the glass hard.
My tanks are in the basement, tank lights go off at 10pm, and I always leave a small light on so the wife can let the dog out before bed. When she is done down there she turns the small light off. That way they don't get spooked...

What happens in the morning? or do you have windows?
Lights turn on around 3pm and off at 10pm, before that is from a curtained window about 10' away. The times when I have turned on the lights suddenly in the middle of the night the fish look so stunned, just like I would if you shined a spotlight in my face a 3am![]()
I haven't exactly set the tank up yet I want a cichlid tank in my room. i'll probably just leave the tank lights on until i go to sleep. and yes, i havewindows in my room!
