I am at-last starting my trop pond project, with tanks i have tried to go for 4x per hour turnover-will i need this on the pond or can i get away with less but add in some air stones for additional oxygenation.
set up will be around 1500-1800 gal with 250gal sump.

Most ponds seem recommended at a .5x turnover rate, I would say atleast a one time would be good though depending on the fish though.

2X turnover should be your target.

The only times extra areation in the form of airstones is really needed is when pond depths are over 4' or chemical algae treatments, try to avoid the later. During summer months, pond water can thermally stratify making the bottom layer low on oxygen. Areation breaks up the thermal stratification and makes oxygen avail. throughot the water column.

A bottom drain or decent pump from the sump will eliminate the need for airstones. Airstones can make viewing the fish from above a little difficult if left running while checking them out.

Are you installing a bottom drain?

A couple of air stones and a small compressor is a cheap, effective way to move water at that depth.

beckett also makes an aerator head for pond pumps, it's 6.99$ online much cheaper imo.
