turtle basking

how do i make sure i dont fry my turtle with my basking light? how many watts should it be?

You need to put the light a certain distance from the basking spot to achieve the correct temperature. you need to measure the temperature on the basking spot, and then either move the light closer or farther away to get the right temp. The wattage of the bulb doesn't really matter that much.

ok well how hot does it have to be? i will have 2 red ear sliders. and what about water temp? will the light heat it for me?

mabey ill go with an eastern painted turtle. they seem to be smaller.
