So i bought a small mississippi map at a reptile show and put him in with my small eastern painted turtle. The map and eastern are really small, but the map can fit on the painteds back. When i put the map in i made sure the other was fed and put the painted in after the map was in.

My painted went after him and bit his leg and i seperated them. No harm was done.
Had to put the map in a spare 10 gal.

Right now i filled my bathtub up some and put them in there and they seem to be doing fine. When they go up to eachother they swim away.

You think i can put the map in the 125 with him now?

For starters you should be keeping the new turtle separate from the other in quarantine. For all you know you could have brought home a sick or diseased turtle and now you'll have two. I for one would not keep the two together for at least a month until you know for sure the new one is healthy.

Yes you can give it another try in about a month. But smaller turtles usually do get bullied so you'll have to keep a close eye on them, especially during feeding time.

From what I have read, turtles tend to be more of a solitary animal until they get older. Unless you have a big enough enclosure to give them their own space.

I have 7 turtles, and by LUCK I have placed them all together in the correct fashion and they get a long. They are older though.

They should be fine.. the turtle was probably just stressed and reacted upon instinct.

I would just give them time to work it out.

I have a map and a Reeves together and at first they were perfectly fine. Then for about a week, the Reeves would not let the map bask. She would literally pick the map with her mouth and throw her off the basking platform. I would always check the map for damage but there was none, so the Reeves was being relatively gentle. Then as quickly as it started, it ended. Now they bask together all the time.

Having said that though, I would still keep a close eye on them. Each turtle has their own personality and some may just be bluntly intolerant of others. Good luck.
