Decided to take my wife to the park where i asked her out/proposed to her and my inner dork was released. didnt even make it around the trail once before i was stepping off into the pond for a turtle. Came home with a soft shell and a baby snapper. I put the softshell in the pond and the snapperis going in the in-tank refugium as soon as a find him something to float on. Anyone know exactly what the little guy is? hes already snappin at finger

that looks like a baby musk turtle to me...

Pretty sure first is a spiny softshell turtle.
Second looks like musk.

awww the second one is so cute! :)
Love turtles and will be getting some this summer :D

First is a spiney softie and the second is a comon stink pot Sternotherus odoratus. Nice pickups but why dont you put them where you find them or relese them in a safer spot? A Softy that size is not a adecuat one to put in a outdoor tank because she will be so shy you´ll have no ways to find her, to see that she´s ok or to see if she´s eating. If you want to keep her, get yourself a big tank and raise her there for a few years until shes at least a few inches long and she trusts you so that you may put her in the outdoor pond and call her to eat like you would with any other turt. Also an turt that size its very vulnerable to predators and your pond seems too deep and she can drown. Softys are great swimers but she´s only a baby. I say this by experience because I have keept softys outdoors and it his a real challenge

Ive been keeping native turtles for a long time and ive had many get eaten by birds, stuck under rock and drown but ive learned my leason. The pons in only 18" deep and there are plenty of rocks so it can get out of the water. Ive also added a few dozen rosie reds and snails for it to eat. The musk turtle is to small for me to feel comfortable putting in the pond or a tank so its going back home today. The softie will stay around for the summer and either go back or i will find a way to bring it in for the winter
