well i am going away to vermont for a week. i just ordered my 2 baby eastern painted turtles. would it be easier to just take them with me? if so how would be the best way to transport them? its only a 5-6 hour drive at the very most. so do you think using a big plastic tub would be the best? just fill it half way and put a floating log in it?? then bring the tank and light and stuff?

If you just got them I would leave them... it will just be that much more stress on them if you take em. Have somebody come over once a day and feed them and check on them.

yea...thats the problem i have no1 to come and check on them! i have asked every1 and noone will do it. i wont just leave them in there ill take them out if that will reduce stress?

thats not a great idea you need to put them in the tank their gonna live in and leave them to settle in, they may not eat for the first few days anyway while they are getting used to their new surroundings. you could dump a load ov live food in there while your away, the turtles can eat as they please and you wont have to worry about food rotting in your tank while your away. my soft shell loves snails or you could try somthing like bloodworm or daphnia, remember in the wild predatory animals dont tend to gorge themselves everyday, if you use this method they should be cool for a week

well noone will be here all week. they will be in theyre home for like 5 days before i leave. so its their benifit because i dont wanna leave them here ALONE for a whole week. ill bring their tank too.

Turtles will be absolutely fine for a week, reptiles are pretty well evolved to dealing with periods of fasting. Throw some anarcharis or dandelion leaves in there to nibble on if they get hungry, and give them a decent meal before you go and they will be fine. Moving them about will be a massive stress.
