I can't tell if my "rescued" Painted Turtle had shell rot, or just shedding his shell. I went to take the "scutes" off, but it wasn't easy, so I didn't get any off because I was worried on what was under neath or what it even was.
PLEASE HELP!!! IT MAY MEAN LIFE OR DEATH FOR A TURTLE! He is eating.

Easy to tell, shell rot is spongy. Those top pics look quite normal, and the bottom ones look like he's dry/shedding. Don't try to peel em, I'm sure its fine.

It's a painted turtle lol...it's easier than any fish. If you have: filter, water, heat lamp, UV lamp and food it will live lol. Even IF it has shell rot, it's relatively easy to cure. Add some salt if you're worried.

does not look like shell rot to me

DONT TRY TO PEEL HIS SCUTES OFF!!! EVER!!! its bad to do that! trust me im an expert on turtles and have owned three! they all lived, too.

if you dont have it go and buy vitashell from a petstore>

if that dosent work make sure your water stays super clean or else he might get infection.

BUT, its probubly not shell rot!

trust me im an expert on turtles and have owned three

I think you might be outclassed by some members of this forum, who have several dozen turtle species lol. I don't think vitashell is used by experts either ;).
