what turtles can i put in a 180 with clown knife, aro, peacock bass, indo dat, rtc, tsn etc....i really dont want them to get huge. preferably have for life time tank and will not eat fish. let me know :naughty:

a general rule is if you want fish then no turtle, if you want turtle no fish.

AFAIK, pretty much any turtle will eventually nip and chase your other fish to death. I've seen small turtles chase fish much larger than themselves as well.

If there is an exception, I'd love to hear about it.

i have 2.5" soft shell turtle in with my 2 senegale birchirs / 2 medium sized oscars and 2 plecs

they all get on fine the turtle has his wood floating for a basking area but normally he just wedges himself between the tank side and the external filter

he was only about 1inche when i got him but the past few weeks he's grown quite a bit which is nice as he's got real charecter,
i feed him on frozen prawns and frozen bloodworm,

no idea what else i can feed him yet tho :)

good luck keeping them there great pets

What kind of soft shelled turtle? They're generally the worst to keep with fish because they're carnivorous. Some can grow quite large also, as in several ft long. Your bichirs are most at risk if he decides to attack something.

I kept a yellowbellied slider with my africans at one time and he never showed much interest (mostly he wasn't smart enough to catch any of them), however, turtles tend to become more nippy or aggressive towards fish as they age.
Slower less carnivorous turtles with faster and smarter fish may work out long term, but remember that there's always the chance you'll wake up to injured or dead fish. The biggest problem with turtles and fish is keeping your water quality high enough for the fish, so take that into consideration if you try it.

I have a 150g and want to get a small turtle too! There has to be a way they can live in harmony. I don't see a 5inch turtle going after a 6-12inch fish. I don't know enough about turtles, but 6 inch turtles dont go after 12 inch bass in the wild do they?

i've seen 10'' sliders chase 3foot koi around.
a 6 inch turtle could never catch a 12 inch bass in a few hundred thousand gallons though.

Not usually as a 12" bass would swim away. In the wild, they are not contained together in a little glass box....
