Turtles Eye Shedding?

So, i woke my turtle up yesterday morning and his eye was stuck shut and he was rubbing it with his arm, after about 3 mins he got his eye open and a little extra skin was hanging off it.

Is this normal? i have had him about a year and never seen it before.

Was it pus, and not skin? What species of turtle is this?

He was just sleeping on the rock and i woke him up eye was fine. I'm not 100% it's a random turtle i found in the woods.
