Very much south..
One thing I've noticed in MFK is the quantity of people who have turtles in fish tanks, mostly those that I believe you guys call Flying Turtles which I had never seen before.

My question is simple: Don't turtles wreak havoc with the water? Isn't it a mess after a couple of days and bad for the fish?

I would like to be enlightened by you guys, because the mixed set ups look beautifull.

Thank You

Fly river turtles. Eventually the turtles will nip the fish or outright eat them-Anne

Thank you Beblondie..( I can imagine that )

they do cause the water to get pretty dirty. i have had regular red ear slyders with my fish for over a year. jus keep a few floating plants for him to relax on every now n then or atleast hang onto for resting. they chased feeders, but never ate any of my fish.

I was also plannin to do it before, but I have seen a matured one from a friend of mine..its very big! its like a dinner plate and its 5 years old,it has large claws and a very powerful beak...no fish could survive that...I dont want to risk my fish on it. its a like a tank vs an infantry

I know several people with FRTs and fish the FRTs all had to be seperated eventually.I kept RES with fish before turned into a slaughter one night-Anne

Hmm I thought about maybe getting a Fly, I was under the impression they were strictly herbivores and wouldn't bother the fish. Oh well. And most other turtles need a basking spot or they aren't good enough swimmers for a deep fish tank (muds/musks)...or of course snappers but talk about a slaughter :)

I thought about it, but the poo generated by the turtles would overload my fish. And I don't want my fish to be fish food. I have given my turtles feeders just to give them exercise and they made short work of them. I have three softshells, a falso map, a res, and two stinkpots.

^ Oh yeah, those turts will take down fish in a heartbeat, the softshell for sure. And they do crap alot, when I'm doing turtle tanks I usually go with a filter that's rated for twice the water volume, ie 50 gallon tank/filter that can handle 100 gallon fish tank.
