Ok, so i bought a 55g with the original intention of putting fish in. Now i am thinking turtles. Would a pair of mud/musk turtles fit?

sounds fine to me, they are a really cool pet, My brother has a single one in a 30g that is happy as can be

meh. changed my mind. how would a loggerhead musk do in a 55g with some sand, plants, and some slate tiles making a basking platform?

Loggerhead musk would b fine, they dont move much in my experience but it may tear up the deco when bigger. How bout a pair of Texas maps. Females top out around 5" and males around 3.5"-4". Just a thought.

I have considered maps, and they just don't do it for me. I have decided i will be getting a mud/musk of some sort (if i can find one a red cheeked mud turtle) I have been tossing around the idea of filling my tank up half way, and using the remaining space for some frogs or geckos

If you try and put frogs or geckos in with the turtles they will get eaten. They will be happiest if you give them as much space as possible to swim with lots of places to hide. Make sure you also have the proper lighting with UVA and UVB, they will get metabolic bone disease without it and unlike any of our other common pets with ailments they will not die right away. A turtle can go years slowly dying of issues related solely to poor husbandry. I would recommend the book Turtles of the US and Canada. It is an updated text book on turtles and can answer questions related to turtle husbandry. Most pet stores are unintentionally offering false information so it is important to have a reliable source of information

That is what I expected, but with a bottom walking turt, and an arboreal gecko, it might work. Of course i would be prepared to lose the gecko, and i would go with a very cheap one. I have kept other species of turtles before, and I am aware of the care needed. Earlier I was inquiring about whether or not two turtles would fight, and I decided not to risk it.
