I have 2 african side neck turtles, not sure of their sex but recently one has been basking for days, it sleeps with its head under water sometimes. also i have come in and found the other turtle laying on top of it, anyone know what is going on??

It appears we're dealing with a zombie turtle.

i dont think its sick, its swimming fine, eating fine and the rest, just curious if it could be breeding or what not. i will get it checked with someone i know who is good with turts.

you scared me now! hopefuly i dont get eated during the night by the zombie turtle!

Good looking turtles mate. A turtle that spends its time out of water most of the time, especially when you are in the same room is a clear sign that something is wrong. I would guess it is stress related and if that is the case you will need to rectify the situation quickly as stress can kill a turtle easily. Have you noticed any fighting happening between the two? If so you may have to seperate them.

I can't see in the pics, but do the turtles have access to a dock where they can dry off completely? If they are always wet they can get fungal infections.

I would also raise the water level to give them some swimming area.

Also, what is the water temp?

A turtle that stays out of the water most of time is very suspicious of having a respiratory infection wich I should ad this guys are prone to. A exotic vet visit would clear that out.

My 5 year old Pelusios Castaneus very rarely enters the water. Matter of fact, she eats on the basking area and when she's hungry, she sticks her head in the water. On average, she takes a quick swim once a month!
I see nothing wrong with your turtles and extended basking is nothing to worry about.
Sidenecks like to walk around on the bottom thus I am against raising the water level. Matter of fact, I would lower it! They like an environment similar to Soft shells.
Either way, your turtle does not need a vet.
