wich pond turtle would be best in a outdoor pond in southern california i was thinking of either a western painted turtle or a southern painted turtle

Check your regs first to be sure the turtles you want are legal. Paints should do all right in your climate, just make sure the pond is fairly deep and has some shade so the water doesn't get too hot. Are you in the desert or closer to the coast?

Western painted its better as a insurance against winter cold but both should do fine
