Hi All,

I have had my Motoro stingray for a while now but don't claim to know alot about them at all... Just today I have noticed that on his tail he has 2 long pointy barbs and I'm sure he only used to have one... is this normal?

Will post photo if needed

Cheers
Sam

Normal just shedding the barb. Once you see it disappear make sure to dig it out of the tank.

Oh I see, do they just keep doing it? does it pay any reference to if the ray is a certain age or mature etc?

They grow more quickly as the rays are growing, mine seem to do 2 or 3 a year and the barbs get bigger too. I keep all mine and drop them in boiling water before I touch them and to clean them up.

Being that they are the stingy bit of a sting ray....do be careful, you will be amazed how sharp they are. Do not forget that the poison is on the outer skin on the shaft of the sting.

+1 on what has been said. All rays shed their barbs. My male has 2 right now as well. I think he is going to drop one soon. It's at least 3 inches.
