Two 14"+ Cobra Pike Question and PIC

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Pic 1 is hard to tell, looks like there "may" be a white stripe in the dorsal - possibly female

Pic 2 (I assume this is the same fish as pic 1) appears to have a nice white stripe in the dorsal, I would guess female by this pic.

Pic 3 I don't see any hint of white dorsal stripe, I would guess male on that one.

I assume that they get along well enough not to off each other - that is great! The red on them is AWESOME - too bad they loose the juvie coloration.

my 0.02 - hope it helps :)

Those are both males !! Our male is about the same size, the female has white dorsal top stripe, and on top of caudal - ours is almost 12" now. She bulked up a bit over the winter.

Nice Cobras you have! in different tanks, eh?

Definite, 100% confirm on what John says. Females are unmistakeable. Almost completely rocket red with the bold white in the dorsal and caudual, can't miss it. Especially at 14". ;) Also, generally the males grow larger than females. Males 'normally' top off at 14", females a little over 12". Normally. . . .

Thanx for the info, i got rid of one of them now. Traded for a Atabapo I, which i think it is. I'll post some pix so you expert can help me with id it too

Those photos don't do her justice!! She looks rather stressed out. They should paint the sides and back of the tanks black! Maybe then the fish would show their top colors! :D Thanks for the photos John! Always a pleasure! :D
