Need to sort out filtration for my newly arriving 5x2x2 (will be stocked with Sevs and geos).

I will already have one free Eheim 2217 and will obviously need another filter. I want to go the external canister route, so would two 2217's be enough ? My gut reaction is that it probably won't be, sadly. I do love Eheims but the bigger ones cost an arm and a leg. So what else would you recommend ? FX5 ?

Key factors for me are reliability, low noise and low electrical running costs.

it is probably fine, but if it were my tank, I think I would find two 2217s to be inadequate, depending on your stocking, etc. . . .

I run two 2217s and a 2215 on my 90G, mainly because I can . . .

I run an FX5 and an Eheim 2060 pro II on my 90 as well.

I run Eheim 2028 Pro II, Emperor400 HOB, and Maxijet 1200 powerhead for 5x2x2 tank. It's a moderately stock tank with 50% waterchanges weekly. I have another Eheim I have yet to hook up but so far it's doing the job.

Hmmm. yeah having thought about it more and got various opinions, I'm going to need more than 2000l/hr turnover, so 2 x 2217s will not be enough. Something like 3-4000l/hr at minimum I think. Maybe an FX5 plus a 2217, or even 2 x FX5s. Blimey the cost of this is going up and up !!

remember, filtration is only something you use to get you through to another water change. ANY filter will not make up for poor water changes, but more frequent water changes will make up for poor filtration. Just a thought.
