Don't worry about the pricing. Filters come with full media and hoses. Just a simple comparison, which option would you take, 1x fx5 or 2x 2028's? Thanks.

I have a 2078 and love it. I would go with the 2 x 2028's. But a lot depends on the rest of your tank configuration.

When you get to needing that much filtration I would go with a wet/dry sump over either of your choices.

I currently have 4 eheims total (2x 2217, 1x 2215 with 2217 impeller and one 2213) so I know how good they (or at least the classic line) are. But I'd like to try out the fx5 for a change - I almost bought one 3 years ago but didn't. I don't have any tank that is filtered by a single canister so fx5 is planned to run along with other filters.

So I guess the winner is 2x 2028's...

Love my FX5, been running it over a year as the sole filtration on my 125 and it's perfect. I've run 2217s and pro IIs and I've just never been that impressed with Eheim (they're nice though).

Go with the Fluval it's better than two Eheim Pro 2028's. Eheim filters are underpowered and overpriced. They don't have the flow to keep up with with the ebay filters let alone an FX5. The only reason I bought an Eheim 2217 was because people swear they're the best, but those people don't know what they're talking about. It's been the most disapointing filter I've ever owned. This big ass 2217 can't even keep up with a little Mag 350. The only thing the Eheim has going for it is bio filtration which a cheap sponge does 10 times better. The Eheims totally fail at Mechanical filtration which is what keeps your water looking clean. If anybody tries to sell you an Eheim run away and don't look back. There are much better and affordable options from Rena, Fluval, Marineland and SunSun/Aquatop. Eheim imho is overrated just like everything else that comes out of Germany. This coming from a guy who owns two German cars (never again).

I Run an FX-5, 3 AC 110's, and 2 2232 ecco 60's on my 180g. I find the fx5 superior in bio, the ac110's superior in mechanical and the ehiems superior in maintinence.
