Hello fellow MFKers, I have a 29 gallon (I know tiny :D) with a 40-60 tetra whisper I believe, it came with the tank for free from parents. Petsmart currently has the Fluval 205 canister filter on sale for 60 bucks...I've read all through the forums and feel I've learned a lot so thank you all! I guess as I've only ever dealt with HOB filters the whole thing has me cautious and just looking for some direct answers from an experience community.

Is this a good idea to run both filters, should the current one be enough, what media options are the best way to go? My stock is four African chiclids...any other options or input would be greatly appreciated, thank you for a wonderful site! :headbang2

The fluval will run circles around the tetra and $60 is a tremendous deal. Just set it up as the directions tell you to and you'll be fine. Since the tea is already seeded I would run both filters for arleast a month but there is nothing wrong with running both on a permanent basis.

Yeah, thats definately a good deal. I always like to run more than one filter for redundancy sake. You can clean them alternately as well.

As far as media, I'd use the mechanical and bio and skip the chemical(carbon, etc.) good luck and welcome!!

Thank you for the replies, ok I guess this is where I get a little mixed up...the media with two filters. So if I don't use carbon in the HOB it is just there for the biological filter and then the canister would be all mech?

That is a Great deal on that filter. I might have to go out and get on for a second filter on my little 55 gallon
