The smaller one is almost a full month into holding, and the larger one has only been in my tank for two weeks. and was holding yesterday morning when I woke up.

I stripped her today and only got one fry the rest were unfertilized eggs.

I hope she waits this time before getting knocked up again.
Last time it was not a week after I striped her that she had another mouth full.
She had not gained near enough weight then so I am thinking about keeping her in a hospital tank till she fattens up a little this time.

cool man .... but what is their size ?? cus i got few about 5 cm and i was wondering can they breed now ?! i mean in this size

what is the temp in the tank? If she was holding for a month that would,t make sense that only one fry would have developed mabye the other eggs didn't get fertilized...?

The temp stays around 27.c, but I think they just did not get fertilized.

When I saw that her vent was out, and that her, and the albino red top zebra were going at it again less than a week after I stripped her first batch of fry! I took the albino out of the tank, and put him into my hospital tank.

The next day she had a mouth full so I put the albino back into the main tank. I think maybe she had already laid one egg, and the albino fertilized it before I had noticed. Then I think she laid the rest, and picked them up but they never got fertilized because the albino was no longer in the tank with her.

I think the only other male I had at the time was too young to be doing that so...

Anyway she is now in the hospital tank where I am letting her recoup so that she does not have a 3rd month in a row of holding.

She is now my smallest cichlid, she was the biggest when I got them all back in December of last year but two months in a row of holding has left her behind everyone else.

I bet that getting knocked up less than a week after holding 16 fry for a month may have had something to do with having only one fry, but who knows for sure.

I do know that if I ever have a cichlid get another batch of eggs less than a week after spitting fry I am stripping them, and building a tumbler because it can't be good for the fish to go two months hardly eating anything.:screwy:

how long do u want to wait before stripping them? how big will they be at that point?and when do u need to start feeding or when will they begin to feed?
