Herbie, bean, and durso I am familiar with.
I got a used 75 gallon that has a 1.5" drain next to a 1" return, inside of a weir.

It will be used with a sump. In all my searching of over flows, I have not see this lay out.
I am thinking I should use both as drains and route the return from sump through a different, not yet drilled bulk head.
Any help will be appreciated.

I would do exactly what you are thinking 2 drains and drill a seperate return threw the back with a syphon break in the return

Aside from fitting the standpipe a durso would work here. Your option sounds better as far as flow is concerned.
