It 's been a while since I posted an update on the arowanas. This is due to a very hecktic work load and more sadly, the death of both leichardtis......yes, both.
After obtaining both of the fishes, they began to lose their appetites and slowly withered away regardless of whatever treatment I tried. Both fishes were held in separate tanks. The lfs where I obtained the leichardtis also had the same thing happened to some of their stock.
Not wanting to sulk on my loss, I bravely tried a third time. The lfs gave me the fish at a major discount due to my loss. This fish has been in the shop for the past 4 weeks.
What I did differently this time is place a heater in the tank. This isn't usually a standard thing to do in Hawaii since our water temperature normally ranges from 78 - 84 degrees. I currently have the heater set at a constant 87 degrees and treated the water with furuzone green for a couple of days.
I'm happy to say that the leichardti is doing great. It has a voracious appetite and eats frozen bloodworms, raw shrimp and feeders consisting of white clouds and zebra danios. It's showing no signs of any illness and it's stomach is nice and plump all the time. It was very jittery throughout it's stay at the lfs but is now swimming very comfortably in my tank.
I know photos speaks louder than words and so I'll post a few as soon I can.
