Are there any disadvantages or problems with having 2 separate lighting periods in a day? I'm thinking of maybe a 2-3hr ON period in the morning and another 5-6hr ON in the evening. The reason would be to simply enjoy the fish during the times you're usually around the house without needing a single 12-13hr ON period which would probably be too much.
FWIW, I currently don't have anything growing except heaps of hair algae (probably because my lights are on too long
), but would like to try java fern or something relatively easy. Also, I currently have a basic community tank with nothing requiring unusual lighting... that I'm aware of anyway
.
EDIT: dang, even though I tried searching before my post, I just found this one... http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=163438
